About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Lisbon at R. Pedro Calmon 3B, Café Dias stands as a cherished neighborhood gem that has been delighting locals and visitors alike since 1969. This charming café blends rich Portuguese tradition with a welcoming, artsy atmosphere, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking authentic flavors and warm hospitality.

Café Dias takes pride in its timeless approach to coffee, serving expertly brewed Bicas from the very same classic Faema e61 coffee machine acquired in 1969. The aroma of freshly roasted beans fills the air, promising a truly memorable coffee experience. Guests rave about their cappuccinos, with visitors from around the world proclaiming it the best they’ve ever tasted, perfectly balancing boldness and creaminess in each cup.

The menu is a delightful celebration of simple yet exquisite Portuguese fare. Highlights include the Imperial E Tremoços, a refreshing local beer paired with lupini beans that perfectly complement the cozy setting. The beloved Galão E Torrada Alentejana offers a creamy, smooth coffee drink with traditional toasted bread from the Alentejo region, a comforting way to start the day. For those seeking a heartier option, the Tábua de Salmão Com Alcaparras E Alface is a beautifully crafted salmon board featuring capers and fresh lettuce, a dish full of vibrant flavors and textures that speaks to the café’s attention to quality ingredients.

More than just a place to eat and drink, Café Dias radiates a genuine local spirit. It’s a lively hub for music and culture, famously hosting live jazz and poetry nights on Thursdays that transform the space into a cozy, intimate venue. This blend of good food, excellent coffee, and captivating live performances creates a uniquely warm and familial atmosphere, cherished by regulars like James Banner who have been returning for years just for the friendly staff and welcoming vibe.

Whether you’re escaping the busy streets of Lisbon to enjoy a quiet coffee break, meeting friends over hearty snacks, or immersing yourself in the café’s vibrant cultural events, Café Dias offers a rare blend of tradition, warmth, and creativity. Its minimalist yet chic interior sets a stylish, relaxed tone, allowing visitors to feel right at home. Love Café Dias - been coming here for 6 years now on trips to Lisbon. Pedro and the rest of the staff are really warm friendly, great food and cold beer. Great concerts of the best local and international musicians on Thursdays. Proper local and family atmosphere.

Considered a landmark by true locals, Cafe Dias has been serving Bica’s since 1969 and on the same coffee machine (Faema e61) bought in 1969. Live jazz on Thursday’s guarantees a cozy evening. Always a good lunch on the menu that changes daily. Artsy!
